New 2021 BMW 7 Series Specs Configurations

New 2021 BMW 7 Series Specs Configurations – BMW’s All-electric 7-series can pack as much as 670 horsepower and offer the Tesla-topping 120 kWh battery to boot, giving the big BMW sedan necessary to compete with the next wave of luxury EVs.

The source in Munich told BMWBlog that BMW is testing two variants that came with 7-Series electricity, reportedly dubbed i7. Basic i7 will utilize the Battery 100 kWh Pack and electric motors that are capable of delivering about 550 horsepower. Higher-End i7 will reportedly boast a 120 kWh battery and deliver a whopping 670 horsepower. Both models are said to offer about 325 miles of range on the EPA cycle (or 360 miles of range on the WLTP cycle used in Europe).

2021 BMW 7 Series Electric

BMW has publicly asserted some of the details of the 5th generation Electric Drive system, which claims to be able to deliver at least 720 horsepower. The architecture is compact and modular, combining electric motors, transmissions and power control units into the same housing. Three of these combined units motivate the 5-series BMW Mule Test revealed in June; Two power wheel rear, allowing for the control vectoring torque, and one front strength.

The system allows BMW to scale power output and an all-wheel-drive capability for each model by simply augmenting or reducing the power delivery unit. A front or rear-wheel-drive car can only use one unit for efficiency or two for performance (likely in the case of Rear-wheel drive Sport sedan or Coupe, which can utilize two-motor torque vectoring). ALL-wheel drive will require a minimum of two units (one front; one rear) but can utilize up to four for maximum performance and precision control of torque delivery.

A version of this same system will iX3 upcoming crossover powers, but will likely use only one or two units (depending on the configuration) and make substantially less horsepower. The range for compact iX3 is estimated to fall between 200 and 300 miles.

Just a few days ago, we shared with you some future news on the BMW i7 electric limousine which will be based on the next 7th Generation series. The news may come as a surprise to some people, but for BMW, this seems to be the norm moving forward. The Munich-based car has shared their plans for 12 fully electric vehicles by 2025 some of which should be based on the fifth-generation platform which allows for both ICE and EVs.

One of the 12 models seems to be the next Generation 7 series that is currently being designed in Munich. It is the first series-production model written under the guidance of Jozef Kaban, Chief of Design BMW. Based on the typical BMW production cycle, we believe that the design phase is about to wrap up with the final design to be chosen sometimes this year.

Just like the BMW I4, because in 2021, the Electric 7 series will not only carry “i ” moniker, but it will also display different power output and battery packs. We do not know the full details, but the source says that the battery pack capacity can start at 80 kWh (such as I4) and go higher than 120 kWh. We don’t know how that translates into real-world driving miles (kilometers), but BMW has hinted that at least 400 miles (about 600 km) of reach will be the norm in the future.

2021 BMW 7 Series Performances

Power Output is still being defined – so we’re told – but we believe we’ll see at least 500 horsepower in low-powered models and probably over the 600 HP for high-end products. A choice between Rear-wheel drive and xDrive will be offered as well, which is exactly what you would expect from a product that will serve many different markets.

We also believe that the new 7 Series electricity will be sold under the i7 badge, followed by a number indicating the battery capacity. We have seen similar reports on I4 as well. With BMW already testing 2022 iNEXT, we expect a new test of Series 7 also Kick-off in 2020.

As usual, until BMW confirmed the new model, everything remained on the level of rumors, however, looking at their overall EV strategy, the i7 rumors made more sense than before.
