Next-Gen 2024 BMW 3 Series With Some Interior and Exterior Updates

2024 BMW 3 Series With Some Interior and Exterior Updates

2024 BMW 3 Series – A more substantial update is pegged to the interior, where we’ll see BMW introduce the latest version of its iDrive infotainment system.

The newest design, version 8.0, features a larger screen and may see the revised 3-Series dashboard to match the new i4 2022 power hatch (shown below).

Speaking of electric vehicles, the updated 3-Series will feature its electric options, possibly with the i3.

A prototype for the electric 3-Series has been spotted. Expect to match the i4’s specifications, which means an 83.9-kilowatt-hour battery and a maximum range of close to 300 miles.

2024 BMW 3 Series Powertrain

It’s unclear what’s available for the existing 3-Series powertrain lineup. The primary option in the U.S. should continue to be a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with a value of about 248 hp.

On top of this, there should be a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine with a power of about 382 hp, this time coupled with a lightweight hybrid system capable of adding 11 hp in the meantime. Both feature powertrains in the updated 2022 X3.

The M3 will have to accept many of the changes pegged to the regular 3-Series, though don’t expect its powertrain to be changed.

The M3 is currently equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-6 that delivers 473 hp in standard guise and 503 hp in the M3 Competition under the pretext.

Sedan sales may decline, but the 3 Series remains a vital model in BMW’s lineup. In the U.S., cars still average more than 40,000 sales per year.

Exterior Design

The grille is flanked by revised LED headlights, with arrow-shaped daytime running LED lights running over the main light beams instead of below.

A comprehensive hexagonal middle intake with an L-shaped signature on each side is shown below.

The new Touring 3 Series gets the same visual updates as the sedan on the front and the new rear bumper.

The cabin will likely get the latest iDrive 8.0 infotainment system used in BMW i4 and iX electric cars.

It consists of a 14.9-inch central screen and a 12.3-inch driver’s screen and should keep the 3 Series up to speed with newer offerings like the latest Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

It’s also safe to assume the new 3 Series will get some new interior trim, as well as an updated dashboard design.

2024 BMW 3 Series Release Date and Price

The 2024 BMW 3 Series facelift is expected to be unveiled in full by mid-2023. Prices are likely to be slightly bumped on the outbound car – which can be earned from £32,595 as a sedan or £34,430 for a ‘Touring’ estate.

2022 BMW 3 Series With a Turbocharged Four-Cylinder Engine

2022 BMW 3 Series
2022 BMW 3 Series

The 2022 BMW 3-series is very satisfying to drive. While a not-so-good sense of steering offsets its incredible refinement, the body is arrayed on all kinds of roads, the brakes are strong, and the driving is comfortable for everyday work.

Plus, the interior is rich and airy and has large luggage. Rivals like the Genesis G70 offer better value, and the Alfa Romeo Giulia is a sexier alternative, but no other sports sedan has Bimmer bandwidth.

Along with the automatic eight-speed drive and rear-wheel drive or all, the 3-series is available with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine (330i), a plug-in hybrid (330e) setup with a range of up to 23 miles.

The all-electric range, or fierce 382-hp turbo straight-six (M340i), is vibrant and accessible when the engine comes.

Fortunately, the sedan’s advantage doesn’t begin and ends with the excitement of driving. That’s because the 2022 3-series is sporty all the time yet luxurious and practical all the time.

2022 BMW 3 Series Engine

The 3 Series offers two smooth, powered gas-powered engines. The 330i features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

The M340i pairs with a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine that produces 385 pounds and 369 pound-feet.

The 330e plug-in hybrid combines a 2.0-liter turbo engine with an electric motor that produces 288 horses and 310 pound-feet.

Our first impression of the 330e reveals a harmonious relationship between gas and electrical elements, and we love the function of the new Xtraboost plug-in that delivers a burst of power that feels like a nitro injection.

Each powertrain pairs with an incredible eight-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel drive.

You can turn on all four wheels for a price. Unfortunately, manual gearboxes are no longer available. Buyers can choose between two suspension settings at 3: basic settings or upgrades with adaptive dampers.

Our first drive of the G20-gen 3-series was very encouraging. The car’s newfound sense of steering provides more road surface information and varied effort than its predecessor, but still less than the iconic early generation 3.

The four-cylinder Bimmer proved its worth by winning comparison tests against other sports sedans. The 330i also secured its place at the top of its class by thwarting the gorgeous Alfa Romeo Giulia in a two-car comparison.

The long-term M340i further proves the nameplate for shape, with an incredible six-cylinder and superb body control.

The 3 Series has a modern design with excellent materials and impressive building quality. Nothing feels cheap inside the 3-series, and the controls are well placed.

BMW also improves outside visibility, and standard sports seats are well supported and supportive and offer extensive customization making it easy to feel comfortable.

Additional contents of the car’s cost include a detailed head-up display, adjustable ambient interior lighting, heated front, and rear seats, a long-distance start, and wireless charging. BMW’s digital instrument cluster is a bit messy but still enjoyable.

At first, some people may find the counterclockwise sweep strange, but you can adjust quickly.

The Series 3 has large luggage with power-operated lids available. With 17 cubic feet of cargo space, this gas-powered sedan can fit six carry-on suitcases at the back and a total of 17 bags with folded rear rows.

By comparison, the Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan holds one fewer suitcase in both tests, and the Alfa Romeo Giulia can fit five and 15 bags, respectively.

The 330e has less luggage space (13 cubes) because of its battery, and we haven’t tested its carrying capacity.

The standard infotainment system runs through an 8.8-inch touchscreen, but the interface can also be controlled with large knobs and buttons on consoles or voice commands.

The Live Cockpit Plus feature suite, which includes navigation, is standard. For awesome things, you’ll need to use the similarly named Live Cockpit Pro package, which increases the touchscreen size to 10.3 inches and gives you the latest and most capable iteration of BMW’s iDrive system.

Subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspots are optional, but the sedan has two USB ports. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standards. One exciting option is BMW’s Gesture Control, which allows the driver or passenger to enter commands.

2022 BMW 3 Series Gas Mileage

With primary engines and rear-wheel drive, the 2022 3 Series gets an EPA estimate of 26 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.

The numbers are perfect for the luxury small car class. The estimated fuel economy for the 330i xDrive 2022 comes at 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

The M340i gets 23/32 mpg of city/highway with rear-drive and all wheels. The M3 has a 16/23 mpg city/highway rating, while the M3 Competition xDrive all-wheel-drive gets 16/22 mpg.

The BMW 330e plug-in-hybrid with rear-wheel drive gets an EPA rating of 75 MPG-equivalent in a combination of city/highway driving. Models with all-wheel drive get 67 MPGe.

BMW 3 Series Handling

The standard 330i is fun to drive, with sharp, responsive steering and balanced driving. Series 3s are confident, have strong brakes, and generally cross rough pavements seamlessly.

Upgraded models such as the M340i and M3 versions are much more athletic and feature enhancements such as the suspension and steering settings of the M-tuned and a more robust brake system.

2022 BMW 3 Series Fuel and Refueling Alternatives

The 3 Series is a plug-in hybrid model dubbed the 330e. Standard rear-wheel drive has an all-electric operating range of about 22 miles before the gas engine works. The 330e with all-wheel-drive can go about 20 miles on electric power alone.

You can charge a Series 3 plug-in at home using a standard household outlet, a 240 volt home charger, or a public Level 2 charging station.

With a regular home outlet, you get a range of up to 4 miles per hour. The 330e can regain its entire capacity in less than an hour using a 240-volt charger.

2022 BMW 3 Series Models

The 2022 BMW 3 Series is available in five variants: 330i, M340i, 330e, M3, and M3 Competition. The 330i base comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the M340i has six turbocharged cylinders.

The 330e is a plug-in hybrid. An eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard on the model, and all-wheel drive BMW xDrive is optional for $2,000.

The M3 and M3 competitions have twin-turbo six-cylinder engines and standard rear-wheel drive; All-wheel drive is optional in the M3 Competition.

The six-speed manual is the only transmission option for the regular M3, while the Competition only offers an eight-speed automatic.

The powertrain you like will likely be a significant factor in choosing the 3 Series. Most buyers have to settle for a dashing basic engine, whereas the M340i is a good combination of performance and price.

Each trim offers most of the same standard and optional features that allow you to upgrade the car as you see fit and budget.

BMW 330i Series

The 2022 BMW 330i starts at $41,450. Standard features include:

BMW 3 Series M340i

The BMW M340i starts at $54,700 and features a 382-horsepower turbocharged six-cylinder engine. On top of the base model, the M340i adds M Sport suspension, variable sport steering, M Sport differential, M Sport brakes, M Sport steering wheel, proximity keyless entry, and ambient interior lighting.

The Harman Kardon 16-speaker surround-sound stereo is optional for $875, while $2,400 gives you a package with high-performance tires and improved engine cooling capabilities.

BMW M3

The 2022 BMW M3 has a 473 horsepower twin-turbo six-cylinder engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and an MSRP starting at $69,900.

Other features include an improved engine cooling system, unique exterior design, M Sport differential, sport drive mode, sport exhaust, carbon fiber roof, Merino leather seats, Harman Kardon 16-speaker surround-sound stereo, heated front M. sports seats, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warnings, and front and rear parking sensors.

BMW M3 Competition

The BMW M3 Competition features a 503 horsepower version of the standard M3 engine, an eight-speed M-tuned automatic transmission, M seat belts, and unique alloy wheels and exterior trim.

Prices for rear-wheel-drive models start at $72,800. The M3 Competition xDrive all-wheel-drive retails for $76,900.

BMW 3 Series vs. Audi A4

The BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 are great luxury small cars, and both are intelligent choices based on your priorities.

You get more of your money with the A4: Not only is the base price a few thousand dollars cheaper than the 3 Series, but it also comes standard with all-wheel drive and more luxury-oriented promise, such as leather upholstery and heated front seats.

Audi also features more straightforward infotainment and softer driving. BMW is a better choice for performance, with more lively handling and a more powerful engine choice. While the Series 3 has 382-, 473-, and 503-horsepower versions, the A4 line excels with 349 horses.

BMW 3 Series vs. Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a long-time rival of the 3 Series, and Mercedes aims to get a leg up in the fight with a fully redesigned sedan model for 2022.

Highlights of this new generation have futuristic cabins and sleek 11.9-inch vertical touchscreens.

The 2022 C-Class sedan comes standard with a 255-horsepower engine — the same rating as the 3 Series — but expects a performance-oriented AMG version to follow.

It’s also worth noting that the coupe and convertible versions of the 2022 C-Class didn’t get a redesign and are therefore much more similar to the C-Class.

2022 BMW 3 Series Price

The base price of the 2022 BMW 3 Series of $41,450 makes it one of the more expensive vehicles in the luxury small car class, as many competitors start at less than $40,000. The plug-in-hybrid 3 Series retails for $42,950, while the sporty M340i is $54,700.

The performance-oriented M3 starts at only about $70,000, but it can cost a lot more in upgraded versions or with added options.
