2025 BMW M5 Competition: What Will It Look Like?

2025 BMW M5 Competition

The 2025 BMW M5 Competition, expected to launch in July 2024, is speculated to pack an impressive 735 horsepower and 735 pound-feet of torque, thanks to its plug-in hybrid setup borrowed from the XM SUV.

Under the hood, the 2025 M5 will likely feature a 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 engine with four electric motors, a 25.7-kWh battery pack, and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

This powerful arrangement is expected to deliver a net output of 735 horsepower and 735 lb-ft of torque, making it a formidable contender in the luxury sports sedan market.

The new M5 Competition is not just about raw power; it also promises to deliver on performance. The four-door sedan can reach a speed of 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds, which is a remarkable achievement.

With the installation of rear-wheel steering and bigger brakes, the handling and control of the M5 are expected to improve, guaranteeing that it maintains its agility while being fast.

BMW hasn’t made the M5 fully electric yet—but the new 2025 M5 will be a plug-in hybrid. Codenamed G90, the new-generation M5 will borrow a twin-turbo hybridized V-8 from the XM performance SUV.

BMW’s M sedan represents the brand’s core, with the Bavarians’ intention to improve their stats and capabilities in each successive generation.

The new BMW 5 Series on which the M5 is based is not available with a pure gas-fueled powertrain — each version is electrified to some extent, culminating in the all-electric i5 variant — and thus, electrification will allow the M5 to remain in line with the progress made in BMW and throughout the automotive world.

In terms of design, the 2025 M5 Competition is expected to sport a more aggressive and “in-your-face” look compared to previous models.

It will feature wider wheel arches, a boxier shape, and a charging flap indicative of its hybrid nature. Inside, the M5 will benefit from sporty touches like heavier-bolstered seats, aluminum pedals, a dark headliner, and illuminated features.

BMW’s latest offerings, including fully electric vehicles like the i4 and iX, have changed how the automaker approaches interior design.

Since the M5 will be the model with maximum performance and a feature-packed rocket boat, it expects heated and ventilated seats, adjustable ambient lighting, and infotainment gesture control.

Incorporating additional PHEV components could impact the cargo and passenger space of the M5, as additional batteries and electric motors would have to be carried somewhere. However, consumers still need to buy the 700-horsepower car.

While official details haven’t been released yet, it’s clear that the M5 will carry BMW’s latest iDrive 8 software on a large curved display that stretches across two-thirds of the dashboard.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto should be standard, with additional features like wireless smartphone charging, SiriusXM satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspots, and a premium audio system likely available.

The 2025 M5 Competition also introduces fresh equipment under its shiny new sheet metal. It will have an all-new look with larger brakes, optional 22-inch wheels, and rear-wheel steering. The new M5 can travel up to 60 miles in EV mode, with a speed below 87 mph.

As for pricing, while there is still some mystery surrounding the exact figures, the 2025 BMW M5 PHEV is expected to start at around $120,000.

If the M5 competition sedan also comes with a plug-in hybrid system, its starting MSRP will be around $140,000.
