2023 BMW I8 Redesign, New Hybrid Electric Supercar

2023 BMW I8 Redesign, New Hybrid Electric Supercar

2023 BMW I8 Redesign, New Hybrid Electric Supercar – BMW will introduce a plug-in-hybrid i8 halo car, which in and of itself never really lived up to expectations. Reviewed by the BMW Vision M Next 2019 concept car, this as-yet-unnamed replacement should place greater emphasis on performance than its predecessor.

BMW introduced the i3 in 2013 and followed up a cute little commuter car in 2014 with an i8, hybrid-electric supercar, all-wheel-drive. With its carbon body, four-wheel driven, styling that sets it apart from the rest of the automotive industry, the i8 certainly seems like a sure bet for BMW executives.

After leading the i8, the supercar will have an electric front axle and combine a turbocharged gas engine with an electric motor on the rear axle. But here you’ll find an inline-four instead of i8’s inline-three.

The battery will allow at least 60 miles of EV driving between charging. The combined output will flirt with 600 ponies, so it should address anyone’s concerns about the i8 M having a motor to support its M1 display.

2023 BMW I8 Horsepower

But today, less than a decade later, the i8 has been saved, perhaps because of other competitors with similar features but more impressive performance.

However, the rumor mill recently began circling around the revival of the i8, and Car and Driver have now confirmed that the M-inspired 600-horsepower version of the i8 should be in BMW’s lineup by 2023.

After BMW sold most of its interest in the Washington carbon fiber plant, reports indicated there would be no more carbon-bodied Bimmers. We suspect the report is false.

The evolution of the i8 carbon-fiber tub seems inevitable, as the concept showcases unpacated and trimmed composite sills. BMW can mix in some structural metals, though.

2023 BMW I8 Competitions

A greater increase in driving excitement will help the i8 M compete with other hybrid sports cars such as the Acura NSX and Polestar 1 and even nonhybrids such as the Porsche 911 Turbo. BMW could mount a low-rolling-resistance rubber on this one, too, as was the case with the i8, but we’re pretty sure the company has learned that lesson.

The first generation i8 was a stone-cold stunner, combining a carbon monocoque chassis filled with a mid-mounted and turbocharged inline-three engine coupled with an electric motor that powered the front axle.

All told, the plug-in hybrid is a sports car with environmentally conscious consumers in mind and capable of sprinting 4.4 seconds to 60 miles per hour, plus an all-electric range of 23 miles.

But as BMW’s first mid-engined supercar since the original M1 in the late 1970s and early 80s, the i8 never really managed to produce a very impressive performance figure.

2023 BMW I8 Price

We hope the BMW I8 will arrive in 2023, but you’ll want to start saving now. The I8 M must cost at least $160,000.
