2023 BMW M5: Full Electric Power 1000HP?

2023 BMW M5 – German car manufacturers are working on the next-generation M5, and it looks like it will be more radical than we thought.

Rumor has it that the M5 nameplate will include plug-in hybrid and electric versions. The new report also claims that BMW is also working on an extreme variant with around 1,000 horsepower. The next-generation M5 could be a four-door hypercar.

BMW hasn’t even unwrapped its new F90 M5 LCI yet, having just released the standard LCI 5 Series a few days ago, but is already in the works on the next-generation M5. Planned to debut in the latter half of 2023, the BMW M5 generation “G60” is rumored to be, and will most likely be, the first electric M5 ever.

According to rumors, the next-generation M5 will also be the first M car to be an electric vehicle exclusively.

There will most likely be two powertrain variants of the G60 BMW M5, one PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and one BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) be a hybrid, and the other will be fully electric, without a petrol engine.

The PHEV model uses a hybrid powertrain variant that we will see in the upcoming BMW X8 M, giving it a V8 engine and an electric motor with about 750 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque. It’s going to be an all-wheel drive.

The report also says that the total electric model will follow the PHEV and have some pretty impressive specs. Powered by BMW’s Gen V bag-style battery and built on BMW’s CLAR-WE electric architecture, the BMW G60 M5 reportedly gets a 135 kWh battery pack and a charging speed of up to 135 kW from a 400-volt charger. It is also said that 800-volt charging also interfered.

It is even more interesting that the G60 M5-electric is powered by three 250 kW electric motors, two on the rear axle and one in the front. In ordinary mathematics, it powers 750 kW, which is roughly equivalent to 1,006 horsepower. Imagine – The power level of the Bugatti Veyron in the all-electric BMW M5?

All of that mighty power is claimed to be capable of carrying the G60 M5 from 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds and also provides a complete WLTP value range of about 435 miles. BMW showed off a concept technique called Power BEV, dubbed “Lucy.” It is the current Series 5 that is charged with motors and enough battery power to pull the planets out of alignment.

M5 All-Electric in 2023 or 2024

The emission-free M5, meanwhile, is a member of the CLAR WE family. Power will be provided by Gen V bag-type batteries. Although BMW knows that it would be wise to switch to a larger Tesla-style round cell for safety, stability, and performance reasons, it is now too late for such radical changes.

The most potent conventional energy cells in question are rated at 135kWh; connected to a 400V to 350kW charger. In the second step, BMW will upgrade to the 800V standard pioneered by Porsche with its Taycan.

BMW is openly working on the ‘power BEV,’ using five series mules. That model has three e-motors borrowed from the powertrain that we’ll see in the i4 electric and I-next SUVs. One front axle drives while the rear wheels each use a motor. Numbers? 711bhp and sub-3.0sec 0-62mph.

The projected maximum WLTP range is 435miles, the targeted acceleration time of 0-62mph is 2.9sec. In terms of power output, internal documents show two 250kW motors that drive the rear wheels and one 250kW unit that drives the front.

That’s 750kW or about 1000bhp in total – that may sound overwhelming, but in less than twelve months, it will be eclipsed by Tesla’s checkered tri-motor configuration.

The recently launched iX3 electric SUV features such a motor, but it looks like BMW will combine three more powerful units to turn the electric M5 into a hypercar. Also, the same report claims that the layout will include two 250 kW motors at the rear and a similar unit at the front.

The combined output of this motor will be about 1,000 horsepower. That’s more than the current Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S capabilities, but the American company will launch a more powerful Plaid version of the tri-motor around 2021.

Meet the M5 CS, available strictly for one model year — 2022 — and primarily targeting specific markets: North America, Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. If you love a fast BMW, this one is worth a close look.

BMW managed to pull off a considerable weight from the M5, as the CS was lighter than the M5 Competition with a claimed weight of 230 pounds. The hood, front splitter, rearview greenhouse, rear diffuser, and splitter are carbon fiber.

There is a carbon fiber front seat, two rear bucket seats instead of a three-person bench, and a center console with no extra storage. Besides, the amount of silencer material has been reduced to save valuable weight.

20-inch wheels are standard, as are carbon-ceramic brakes. The chassis has been modified with adaptive damper tuning and springs, and sticky Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires will be an option, measuring 275/35 at the front and 285/35 at the rear.

The M5 CS also looks unique and, if you ask us, is prettier. Outside, there are specific color schemes: Kidney lattice and badges are made of gold bronze (the same for wheels); New colors (frozen dark green and frozen grey Brands Hatch) are available; and the headlights emit a yellow light instead of a white, nod to BMW racing cars. The four exhaust pipes, designed to produce a more complex soundtrack, are made of stainless steel.

Further changes include carbon shift paddles, an Alcantara headliner, a CS badge on the dashboard and between the rear seats, a silhouette of the Nürburgring on the headrest, and an Alcantara steering wheel with a mark at the top, so you know the position of the steering wheel at the top. Line.

There are limits to the weight-saving approach: The M division does not turn off the eight-wheel drive system or the eight-speed automatic, although a return to rear-wheel drive and manual gearboxes will result a very significant upgrade. Unfortunately, the manual transmission seems lost for good in this segment.

The twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine in the M5 CS produces ten more horsepower than the M5 Competition. The engine now has 627 horsepower, and this — in conjunction with heavy savings — delivers tangible benefits.

Sprints up to 60 mph take a claimed time of 2.9 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than the company’s claim for the M5 Competition. Of course, we tested the 2019 M5 Competition, which reached 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds, so we think CS will be even faster. The top speed is set at an impressive 190 mph.

The exterior of the M5 CS may look the same in general as the M5, but there are some significant changes, all of which are made to reduce weight. Extensive use of carbon fiber components is used, roofing, hood ventilation, front splitters, rearview mirror covers, rear diffusers, and spoilers.

Take a good look, and the carbon fiber braid is visible, not repainted. Even the engine compartment is untouched; the cover with the logo M and striped colored M is also made of lightweight material. Engineers achieved further weight loss by eliminating soundproof components.

The M5 CS features a unique gold bronze coating on the brand’s signature kidney grille, model emblems, and even special 20-inch forged light-alloy wheels in terms of style.

Other notable exterior items include Adaptive LED headlights with L-shaped light tubes that create racing-inspired yellow illuminations instead of basic whites.

BMW also uses its distinctive Shadowline trim to help bring out the excellent yellow lighting. Exterior colors include metallic grey Brands Hatch and two optional colors – Frozen Brands Hatch metallic gray and Metallic Frozen Deep Green.

The most significant interior change that the BMW M made was the removal of the middle rear seat. There is now a seat for four with passengers treated to black Merino leather seats with red accents and contrasting red stitching.

However, the front seat is a lightweight and adjustable M carbon bucket with additional side braces, an integrated headrest, and a flaming M5 logo. The four chairs have a map of the famous Nurburgring trail printed on the headrest.

The driver is treated to an M Alcantara steering wheel and a carbon fiber paddle shifter. There is an additional Alcantara used for headliners.

The console offers a lightweight leather cover with more red stitching. Designers also made sure to add the “CS” logo to various locations throughout the cabin, particularly in the instrument panel and between the rear bucket seats. It has even been illuminated on the door frame. The “M5” badge is also on the velour floor mat.

Under the hood lies the S63’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, now producing 627 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, a ten hp increase from the regular M5. The torque band is also 90 rpm wider. BMW claims a time of 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph.

Power is delivered to the rear-biased M xDrive AWD system via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A total of 230 pounds have been cut from the M5 Competition.

The driver has three drive modes to choose from 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD. They can even adjust the characteristics and sound of the exhaust system.

To enhance the sense of trajectory, technicians used stiffer engine mounts and different springs and Dynamic Damper Control adjustments due to reduced weight. A set of Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires is offered at no additional charge.

Three drive modes, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+, each offer a unique driving feel according to the driver’s preferences, such as track day.

The driver uses the Settings button for a specific display menu to program powertrain and individual chassis configurations. Using the M Mode button allows the driver to change between Road, Sport, and Track settings. Braking power comes from carbon-ceramic brakes.

2022 BMW M5 CS Price

BMW M5 CS 2022 is not cheap. Priced at $142,000, it’s almost $40,000 more than a regular M5. Production will take place this March, and U.S. shipments will begin in the second half of 2021.

The M5 CS is a 2022 model only, although BMW has yet to determine how many examples are planned. If you want it, it is highly recommended to act quickly.

Competition among super sedans like this is limited to a tiny group of ordinary suspects: Mercedes-AMG E63 S, Audi RS7, Maserati Ghibli Trofeo, and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing to come.

Like the M5 CS, all of these vehicles cost at least $100,000, with the possible exception of the Caddy. Due to the production status of one model year, the M5 CS 2022 could be BMW’s most sought-after for years.
