The 2021 BMW X6 is made for buyers who want a medium-sized luxury crossover with a sportier aesthetic. While traditionalists may scoff at his fastback style and condemn his decline in practicality, they should remember that the more conventional BMW X5 still exists.
Plus, BMW pioneered the movement of SUV-coupes with the original X6, so it must now maintain its market share of spin-offs such as the Porsche Cayenne Coupe and the Mercedes-AMG GLE class.

2021 X6 adds some new standard features, removes some old parts, and gets a revised option pack. The most notable new addition is Android Auto, which was previously unavailable and is now standard.
However, BMW eliminated previous options such as acoustic glass, glass interior control, rear entertainment systems, and night vision with pedestrian detection. 2021 BMW X6 Engine
The X6 40i is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine equipped with a 48-volt hybrid system and paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or all.
The M50i has the same transmission and standard all-wheel drive, but the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine is significantly more powerful. 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque helped him accelerate from up to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds on our test track.
Even more surprising is that the X6 M has up to 617 horsepower and is even faster. However, the standard six-cylinder powertrain is as fast and smooth as velvet.
Both the X6 40i and M50i also have standard adaptive dampers and wheel sizes ranging from 20 to 22 inches. Our testing of the V-8-powered X6 showed impressive cornering grip and stopping power.
BMW X6 Fuel Economy
The EPA estimates the rear-drive X6 40I will get 21 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. The all-wheel-drive version has the same city rating, but the highway figure drops to 25 mpg.
The much more powerful twin-turbo V-8 X6 M50i engine has 16 mpg in the city and 22 highways.
2021 BMW X6 Interior
Not surprisingly, the interior of the X6 looks and feels like most other new BMW products. That means high-end materials and soft-touch surfaces abound, and two large 12.3-inch digital screens dominate the dashboard.
Unfortunately, while the instrument panel looks slippery, the gauges are messy. Fortunately, the optional head-up display is more straightforward.
Other switchgear is also neatly laid out. BMW gesture controls — which allow you to control certain functions such as audio volume by waving your hand in front of the infotainment screen — are included but unnecessary.
Many standard amenities are also offered, including a power-adjustable 16-way front seat, adjustable ambient lighting, heated front pillows, and a passive entrance.
At the same time, the back seat is comfortable for two adults, legroom and headroom shrink by about 2 and 3 inches, respectively, compared to the boxier X5.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The standard 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It operates through traditional buttons, voice commands, a rotary controller in the center console, and even hand gestures.
The company’s iDrive interface has sharp graphics and direct response, but some layered menus can be annoying.
BMW also offers built-in navigation, improved USB ports, wireless charging, and Wi-Fi hotspots. The X6 can also be upgraded with premium Harman/Kardon stereos or more premium Bowers &Wilkins units.
