2024 BMW X6 Active Hybrid With The New Hybrid V8 Engine

2024 BMW X6 Active Hybrid

The updated 2024 BMW X6 has caught testing in Germany. Sitting under the X6 M, this high-performance version is believed to adopt its designation from the X7 M60i.

Built around the X6’s upcoming facelift, the rear bumper has quad exhaust outlets, as shown on the larger X7 M60i sibling.

The prototype tested there also had large wheels and brakes, while the holes in the camouflage showed that it also had a large air intake.

The M60i will be a reference to the S68 engine. Although it replaces the M50i, the recipe will be familiar.

If it were like the X7, it would get a 4.4-liter V8 lightweight hybrid engine that produces 523 hp (390 kW/530 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque.

For this update, the X6 will get a revised grille, slimmer headlights, and a new front bumper with an updated central air intake with corner support.

Meanwhile, on the back, we expect the production taillights to be slightly different from this and feature new graphics.

This prototype, however, wears the taillights of the current generation X6. Elsewhere, the exterior design will remain unchanged, which is not surprising for mid-cycle updates like this.

Inside, the changes are expected to be more substantial. Like most of BMW’s other lineups, the updated X6 will adopt the brand’s large new infotainment suite.

That means a large unit that combines a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen into a curved screen.

Release Date

The updated X6 is expected to debut next year and will be sold as a 2024 vehicle.

BMW is testing facelifted versions of the X5 and X6.

Changes to both M models will be limited only to the front fascia. The headlights will be slimmer and get a new style of DRL.

The grid will most likely retain the same size, but some design changes will be made to the inserts. The front bumper will also bring some updates.

As for the back, none of the prototypes have caught testing so far, showing the updates made here, but this doesn’t mean there won’t be any.

That could mean we’re still seeing some prototypes in the early stages of development, and more changes could come later.

The interior will also offer a few updates, the biggest improvement being BMW’s latest iDrive eight infotainment system.

The biggest updates to the X5 and X6 models, the standard and M versions, should be carried out under the hood.

2024 BMW X6 M Facelift  Engine

Rumor suggests that BMW will switch from the current S63 engine to the new S68 V-8 – the first to be used in the production version of the XM, where it will produce about 750 horsepower.

If BMW makes this switch, the X5 and X6 M facelifts will only be offered in the Competition version.

These rumors should be no surprise since the S68 engine is also capable of supporting plug-in hybrid technology – and BMW is trying to electrify its range.

Expect the plug-in version of this powertrain to offer about 100-150 more horses than the lightweight hybrid version.
