2023 BMW M2 Coupe – BMW is working on a redesign for the 2-Series coupe, and the plan is to keep using the rear-wheel drive. This means the Series 2 variant won’t lose its edge.
All distinctive BMW M style marks are present in the prototype, such as the center-mounted quad exhaust tip, wide wheel arches, and aerodynamic side-view mirror.

The front is highly camouflaged, but we can expect the same aggressive design as seen on the latest M3 and M4, including a high kidney grille.

The new 2 Series Coupe is expected to use a platform that supports the Z4 and Supra twins — a design associated with the CLAR platform that sustains most of BMW’s lineup from the 3 Series upwards (the iX has a bespoke platform). This is an excellent base to build the M2.
Unlike its larger brother, the 2023 BMW M2 Coupe will be a traditional compact BMW, built with the spirit of the original 2002 Turbo.
The current Series 2 lineup includes no fewer than four completely different models. All three use a front-wheel-drive platform with a transverse engine, and there is no remote connection other than the name with the Turbo mentioned above 2002 or any other compact coupe from BMW history.
That wouldn’t be the case with the new 2 Series Coupe and its M2 counterparts, which are being developed with the same RWD architecture as the longitudinal engines as its larger siblings. The M2, in particular, will be more of a driverless car than the M4, thanks to its lower weight, shorter wheelbase, and no xDrive option.

The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six, codenamed S58B30T0 on the M3, M4, and X3 M, X4 M, will find its way in the most compact M cars, with slightly less horsepower and torque.
About 420 horsepower and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque are expected to be found in the standard M2, with the M2 Competition and future CS versions likely to get an additional 20 horsepower or more.
However, if recent rumors are to be believed, the upcoming BMW M2 could create much greater power and sit at the top of the M-badged compact lineup that BMW wants to release in the future.
The new M2 will flex the same six cylinders as the undiscovered BMW M3 and M4, which we know get their juice from the same engines found inside the X3 M and X4 M (where it produces 473 or 503 horsepower).
If that’s the case, then the S58 plant will issue the S55 found inside the current BMW M2, but it will come in a different flavor. According to the same source, the unit will rotate to 7,200 rpm inside the new M2 and produce more than 420 horsepower inside the standard M2.
The move made sense globally, especially since the BMW M had to fend off threats coming from Mercedes-AMG. Affalterbach’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine produces 416 horsepower, so M mechanics are undoubtedly willing to do so.
What’s more, the S58 is compatible with BMW’s eight-speed automatic M Sport because that’s what it’s paired with inside the X3 M/X4 M. It hasn’t been decided whether BMW will offer the new M2 with a choice of manual gearboxes, but the brand does. The fan base will cry for one.
The new BMW M2 will be based on the upcoming second-generation Coupé Series 2, which will be placed based on BMW’s CLAR, so the engine will still be installed longitudinally.

The redesigned Coupe 2-Series is expected to debut in 2021 as a 2022 or 2023 model (it is unclear whether a repeat of the 2-Series Convertible will occur). The M2 should follow a regular coupe for about a year.
This means we probably won’t see the new M2 until the 2023 model year. To help cope, there are rumors that an extra-hardcore CSL version of the M2 could currently be launched. The car will be aimed at track enthusiasts in a similar way to the 2016 M4 GTS.
Interestingly, rumors that the Gran Coupe Series 2 front-wheel drive and related 1 Series hatchbacks sold overseas will get their own unique M models.
It is rumored to be coming with an all-wheel-drive and peak output that records more than 400 hp, possibly from a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4.
BMW M boss Marcus Flasch has previously said that such a car is impossible due to a lack of suitable engines. Given the interest in rival bids from Audi Sport and Mercedes-Benz AMG, the situation could change.

There is no word yet on when the new BMW 2 Series Coupe will go on sale, but you can expect official disclosures later this year, with sales in the UK likely to begin in early 2023. The current range of 2 Series Coupes starts at £27,000.
Mark rises to more than £52,000 for the M2 Competition. The New Range can start at £30,000 points, with the new M2 likely to set you back around £50,000.

Compared to the regular BMW 2-series, the enhanced M2 Competition offers a cruelty mug and broader hips, a chassis tuned to attack race tracks, and a more powerful engine.
The charger’s rugged, six-round straight turbo series engine eats straight faster than Kobayashi lowering the hot dog. While we were preparing for a manual transmission outage, this tiny BMW was still fighting for resistance. It offers a sharp automatic double-clutch as well.
Our M2 Competition will have a standard manual transmission instead of an optional seven-speed automatic as an accurate driver engine.
We’ll choose the Executive plan for adaptive headlights, heated steering wheel, driver assistance, wireless charging, and Wi-Fi hotspots from some of the other options available. Still, we’ll continue with the sunroof and M Driver plans.

The M2’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six is an engine that pumps 405 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. We are reaching the rear wheels via a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed automatic dual-clutch.
The engine powers the M2 with unbridled ferocity and creates tension as you rotate it to the 7600 rpm redline. Like explicit scenes from Fifty Shades of Grey, the punishing M2 journey requires a safe word. But none of it. Those willing to receive abuse on the street will be given pure ecstasy on the track.
The M2 handles like an extension of its drivers, with a powerful thrust and a clairvoyant chassis. Putting the hard ride aside, the M2 is a phenomenal driverless car. Complaining drivers will find solace in the softer BMW M240i.
With the adaptive dampers available in most rivals, BMW uses conventional passive shocks tuned the old way. However, electrically assisted power steering spoils some of the fun. The M2 has large rotors and strong straps that provide excellent pedal feedback that never fades.
M2 Competition Fuel Economy
The M2 manual is slightly more efficient than automatic, according to the EPA. The stick-shift model has a rating of 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, while the car comes in at 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway.

The M2 Competition excites the senses behind the wheel and attracts attention on the road, but its low-quality interior also fails.
It was littered with vibrant carbon fiber and faux-suede trim, but the suitability of the panel and its finish was disappointing at this price.
Not all of the cars we tested joined our long-range fleet for 40,000 miles of surveillance, but the M2 is one example.
Therefore, we recorded an increase in the number of squeaks and rattles inside the interior during the first 25,000 miles of our testing. We love the driver’s sitting position and the logical control layout.
The M2 has a four-seater capacity, but it’s best suited for two passengers, their luggage, and some sundry items for longer journeys.
While none of these compact sports cars are ideal travel companions, BMW has less baggage than most of its rivals and suffers from a minimal central console storage space.
Bimmer’s standard iDrive infotainment system works through an 8.8-inch touchscreen with a clean interface and above-average response times. Although Android Auto isn’t available, Apple CarPlay is standard.
The M2 infotainment screen tilts towards the driver, which maintains peripheral vision. And with anticipated standard features such as Bluetooth and voice recognition, Bimmer has a premium Harman / Kardon stereo and a one-year subscription to SiriusXM All Access. The M2 also has dual USB ports and three 12 volt outlets.

In the US, the BMW M2 Competition 2022 has prices starting at $58,900 for a basic six-speed manual before any options are added.
This price does not include taxes, licenses, registration, and destination/handling costs of $995. Choosing a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission adds a further $2,900 to the base price.
With this option and all the other extras added to the spec sheet, the fully loaded M2 Competition will carry an MSRP of $68,095, including goals.
With the starting price of the BMW M2, you can also drive a basic Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C8 Coupe and, for a little more, an essential Porsche 718 Cayman. In other configurations, the Caymans are just as fast but much more expensive.
